This piece of asphalt has been made with a red body, and black basalt aggrigate has been added. This is to emulate the look of the red-jasper chip foot-paths. It is my understanding that the council doesn't want to use the red chip from Karamuramu Island, because they would be supporting the destruction of Auckland's islands. So these combinations turn up in place of the red chip (However, the council still uses the red chip in heritage areas).
